Description

This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is a beautifully restored (2014) example that blends vintage character with thoughtful performance upgrades. The restoration was completed using only original 1960s Ford steel from donor cars, maintaining the car's authentic structure and feel. When restored, the body was finished in a deep black using a base coat / clear coat system for a high-quality shine. The underside was media cleaned and treated with classic red oxide primer for long-term protection. A stock Ford steel hood is fitted with a bolt-on GT350-style scoop, giving it a performance-inspired look. Structural integrity was improved with torque boxes added to both the driver and passenger sides, along with subframe connectors between the front frame rails and rear torque boxes. All weatherstripping was replaced, including seals for the windshield, rear glass, doors, trunk, and under the hood. The car sits on U.S. Mags Torque Thrust replica wheels, 17x7 with 235/45R17 tires in the front and 17x8 with 245/45R17 in the rear.

Inside, the cabin has been fully refreshed. The front and rear seats were reupholstered, and the headliner, door panels, dash pad, and carpet have all been replaced. A Stewart Warner tachometer and oil pressure gauge were installed in the dash pod to provide period-correct performance monitoring. The audio system was upgraded with a Custom Autosound slide bar radio that features Bluetooth connectivity, preserving the vintage appearance while offering modern functionality.
Under the hood, the car is powered by a rebuilt 289 cubic inch V8 from 1966, bored .030 over. It features new pistons, and the crankshaft and main bearings have been turned .010 under. Performance upgrades include an Edelbrock 2122 cam kit with matching lifters, valve springs, timing chain, and oil pump. The valves, guides, and seals were all machined or replaced during the rebuild. The engine breathes through a new four-barrel carburetor with an electric choke and upgraded cast iron HiPo-style exhaust manifolds connected to 2 1/4-inch stock-style dual exhaust pipes. Recent maintenance includes a new water pump, thermostat, radiator flush, new battery, and alternator. The fuel tank has been cleaned and coated internally, and a new stainless steel fuel line was installed.
Power is delivered through a rebuilt T-5 five-speed manual transmission mated to a T-5 bellhousing, a 157-tooth flywheel, and a new Centerforce clutch kit. Out back, the stock 8-inch rear end retains the original axles but has been fully rebuilt. The axle bearings were replaced, and the center section was rebuilt with all new bearings and races. It now features a new Auburn Gear limited-slip differential unit and new 3.50 gears.

Braking has been upgraded with front disc brakes, while the rear drum brakes are all new, including cylinders, shoes, drums, and hardware. All brake lines and hoses have been replaced. The braking system is supported by a dual master cylinder and vacuum power assist for improved stopping power. Suspension has been enhanced with a 1-inch front anti-sway bar, new links and bushings, and four Grab-A-Trak shock absorbers. Steering components including inner and outer tie rods, center link, idler arm, and sleeves have all been replaced. The spring perches were upgraded to roller-bearing types, and the steering system is now a Borgeson power steering unit with new pump and hoses.
